In the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) journey of faith is the Scrutinies. These are RCIA steps after the Rite of Election intended to scrutinize the elect’s heart and mind to develop and deepen a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. At each Scrutiny, the elect is invited and challenged to express publicly and privately where he or she is in her journey of faith to become a Catholic.
The Scrutinies are celebrated on the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Sundays of Lent. The readings are from Liturgical Year A and on the Gospel of John.
The First Scrutiny is on March 12, 2023 at the 9:30 AM Mass. The Gospel reading is about Jesus encountering the Samaritan woman at the well. The Second Scrutiny is on March 19, 2023 at the 11:00 AM Mass. The Gospel reading is about Jesus healing the blind man at the Pool of Siloam. The Third Scrutiny is on March 26, 2023 at the 11:00 AM Mass. The Gospel reading is about Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead.
Stella Song is the elect who will participate in these Scrutinies to help prepare her spiritual journey to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist in the Easter Vigil. The OLMC parish community is invited to pray for her.

The Rite of Sending is an invitation to the parish community to officially send to the bishop those who are on a journey to receive their sacraments during Easter. The non-baptized catechumens are to celebrate their election to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The baptized candidates are to celebrate their journey to receive Confirmation and, for some also, the Eucharist.
The celebration of the RCIA rites of recognition by the bishop is at the Cathedral Sacred Heart Basilica in the Archdiocese of Newark. The celebrant is Archbishop Cardinal Joseph Tobin.
The candidates are to receive the Rite of Calling the Candidates to Continuing Conversion on February 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM. This rite is to encourage the candidates to continue their spiritual transformation and conversion. The candidates from OLMC are: Kelly Belo, Alexandra Martins, Vladimir Bruno, Leti Camacho, and Andrew De Avila.
The catechumens are to receive the Rite of Election on February 26, 2023 at 2:00 PM. This rite is to enroll the non-baptized, judged by the Catholic Church on the basis of catechists and godparents, to be spiritually ready for the sacraments of initiation. The catechumen from OLMC is: Stella Song.
The OLMC parishioners are invited to offer prayers for our Easter 2023 catechumen and candidates to give them the strength, understanding, and commitment to become lifetime disciples of Jesus Christ.
