Scripture of the Month
1 Samuel 3:8-10
The LORD called Samuel again, for the third time.  Getting up and going to Eli, he said, “Here I am.  You called me.”  Then Eli understood that the LORD was calling the youth.  So he said to Samuel, “Go to sleep, and if you are called, reply , ‘Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.’”  When Samuel went to sleep in his place, the LORD came and stood there, calling out as before: Samuel, Samuel!  Samuel answered, “Speak, for your servant is listening.”   – 1 Samuel 3:8-10

Scripture Reflection:
Are we tuned into God?  Are we listening? 

As Catholic parents, we have an obligation to teach our children about our Catholic faith.  We are their greatest role models in all that we do. 

Studies have shown that parents who exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet have children who exercise regularly and eat a healthy diet.  Studies have also shown that if we want our children to be avid readers, they must see us reading.  It is no different with practicing our Catholic Faith.

Our children look to us for guidance, just as Samuel looked to Eli.  For our children to grow up in our Catholic Faith and have a relationship with Jesus Christ, they need to witness us spending time in prayer and listening to God's call in each of our lives.  We must practice our Catholic Faith through prayer, reflection, and attending mass so that we will have children who practice our Catholic Faith and have a relationship with Jesus.

As you re-read the scripture above, take note that it is Eli who understood.  It is Eli....the parent...the role model, who taught Samuel how to answer God's call.
