SCRIPTURE REFLECTION OF THE MONTH

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
– John 3:16

How many times have you seen this passage from scripture before? You’ve seen it on lawn signs, and Christmas lights, even on Tim Tebow’s eye black. It is one of the most well known verses from the Bible, yet it’s not too often that one steps back to actually reflect on what it means.

God so loved the world… This is a reminder. This is God telling us that He wants a relationship with us so badly that He will hold nothing back in order to get it. No sacrifice is too big. The video you saw from Mark Hart last session said, “You have a God who would rather die than risk spending eternity without you.” That means that while yes, Jesus died for everyone on the cross, he also died for you. Even if you were the last person on earth, He still would have been crucified just to save your life.

It’s easy to look at the big picture and to lose sight of the fact that John 3:16, isn’t just about God loving everybody, he does, but it’s a reminder of how much He loves you specifically and individually, with all of your strengths and weaknesses.  There are many days when we don’t feel lovable. Remember, even on those days, especially on those days, “God so loves you…that He gave his one and only Son”.
