Pastoral Ministry

Respect for Life
A ministry committed to promoting the God-given sanctity of life from conception until natural death.  This ministry strives to defend the lives of the unborn, the elderly, and the handicapped through prayer, education, and legislative action, and seeks to minister to those who have been wounded by abortion.  This ministry is dedicated to the “Gospel of Life” in all efforts to overcome death.

Rosary-Altar Society
Raising funds for the Altar and Sanctuary needs and cooperating with the Pastor in Church matters when called upon to do so are some of this ministry’s functions.  Any woman who is a member of the Church may become a member of the Society.  There are many spiritual benefits.  Mass is offered at the time of death. The Rosary is recited immediately following the funeral mass.  Living members are also remembered at a Mass annually.  Those participating in the Rosary Altar Confraternity receive all indulgences granted for the ceremonies or prayers in which they partake.

Shelter for the Homeless
Our parish, working with two homeless organizations, provides meals, a secure overnight, and hosts up to twenty homeless men and women in our Parish Center.  This shelter is open on Tuesday nights during December and January.  A delicious dinner, bag lunch, and breakfast the following morning is cooked and served by parishioners.  Two hosts spend the night with our guests - one awake at all times.  The same support is provided to the Family Shelter at St. Cecilia’s in Englewood during the first week in August.  Other homeless programs offer service opportunities.

Sharing Our Gifts Ministry
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a stewardship parish sharing a portion of our stewardship of treasure on a weekly basis with charities that serve those in need.  The committee is composed of parishioners that meet four to five times a year to review requests that were submitted and provide recommendations to the pastor.

Stewardship Committee
Stewardship Committee members are devoted to discovering and communicating the theology of stewardship and its implications and applications to parish life.  They must be comfortable talking about stewardship and encouraging others to participate in parish activities.  Members plan the renewal of time, talent, and treasure.  Members must be willing to share insights and collaborate with others to promote stewardship in the parish.  Meetings are held once a month, usually on a Monday night and as needed.

Vocations Committee
To foster and promote vocations to the priesthood and vowed religious life of the Catholic Church and to help develop appreciation of the ministerial priesthood and all religious vocations in the Catholic Church.  This is done through various meetings throughout the year by deanery meetings as well as archdiocesan meetings.
