Pastoral Ministry

Habitat for Humanity
A nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry.  Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races, and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

Health Ministry
Continues the healing ministry of Jesus and promotes the well-being of the whole person - body, mind, and spirit.  Volunteer registered nurses provide health counseling, wellness education, screenings for blood pressure and other essential health care services.  This ministry also provides resource persons for educational seminars and acts as a liaison for community services.  There is no direct nursing care involved although parish nurses utilize their skills and expertise to guide parishioners through the medical maze while offering the spiritual component often absent in the health care system.  Parishioners with or without health related backgrounds are welcomed.

Hospital Visitation
Weekly visits are made to Valley Hospital in an effort to be goodwill ambassadors connecting our Parish with the hospitalized.

Human Resource Committee
Advice and counsel are provided to the Pastor and staff regarding normal human resource matters such as job descriptions, benefits, compensation, etc.  Members are chosen at the Pastor’s discretion.

Knights of Columbus - Ridgewood Council #1736
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization founded by Father Michael J. McGivney and dedicated to religious, charitable, service, patriotic, and social activities.  Since its formation in 1914, the Ridgewood Council has served our parish and community through numerous programs and projects.  Some of the projects sponsored are food drives, eyeglasses for the needy, the St Patrick’s Day dance, senior citizens’ Christmas party, collections for handicapped citizens, blood drives, support for our clergy, pro-life activities, youth events, as well as family religious and social activities.  If you are a practicing Catholic man 18 years or older, you are qualified to be a Knight and welcome to join.

Lazarus Team
Volunteers from the parish help during the time of grief and loss of a loved one.  Home visitation with the bereaved family to plan a Funeral Liturgy, provide Acolytes and Readers during the Mass and perhaps arrange a post-funeral reception with the help of our Martha’s Ministry volunteers are aspects of this ministry.  This wonderful and personal outreach, at a very difficult time, can be a source of Christ’s healing process.  Each November, the parish has a “Mass of Remembrance” to honor all those that have died in the course of that year.

Martha's Ministry
The goal of this ministry is to help ease the burden of OLMC families who have lost a loved one.  This ministry provides and/or serves, at the family’s request, a small repast in the Parish Center for funeral attendees.

Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council is a consultative body which meets with the pastor for prayer and reflection in order to help discern the needs and do visionary planning for the future of the parish.  Members are chosen by the parish community at a discernment night each year.  Meetings are held every other month throughout the year.  A three-year commitment is required.

Pastoral Visitors
A one-to-one ministry cares for the sick, senior adults, and homebound - reaching out to those in time of need.  This ministry focuses on the unique needs of each person and lasts as long as the need exists.  This may take the form of bringing Holy Communion weekly, providing shopping or transportation, or visiting.
