Liturgical Ministry

Adult Funeral Servers
Two adult funeral servers assist the priest during the Catholic Funeral Rite by preparing for and serving the Mass.  At times, one may have to read Scripture or the Prayers of Intercession.  Training will be provided.  Please contact the coordinator for more details.

Altar Servers
The Sunday Eucharist is the high-point of our liturgical worship - it is an “extension” of the Easter celebration.  When Christ the Lord was about to celebrate the Passover meal with his disciples and institute the sacrifice of His Body and Blood, he directed them to prepare a large room, arranged for the supper (Lk22:12).  Our parish altar servers are a fine group of boys and girls (Grade 4 through high school) who generously give of their time in assisting the presider at Mass with special dignity and responsibility.  They also find time during the year to learn more about the Mass and the Church, and help the parish prepare for Christmas and Easter.  They make new friends and have organized outings and events.  Practice sessions are offered when needs arise.

Extra-Ordinary Ministers
Parishioners who are mandated assist the celebrant in the distribution of the Eucharist at weekend, daily and Holy Day Masses.  Some ministers also bring the Eucharist to the homebound and nursing homes.

Lectors of the Word
The gifts of a strong voice, good diction and a desire to proclaim the Liturgy of the Word during the Masses characterize our lectors.  Training is provided.  Those interested in participating in this ministry should contact the coordinator.

Liturgy Committee
The purpose of a Parish Liturgy Team is to be a task-force serving to improve the quality of liturgical celebrations in a parish.  The committee is composed of members of the Parish devoting their time to develop celebrations on Sundays and other special celebrations.  This embraces two main spheres of activity - educational and emotional - A) to provide the Parish with a variety of educational programs about liturgy, B) to plan regular and special liturgy celebrations e.g. Thanksgiving Mass, Advent, and Lenten journeys, and many other events during the year.

Liturgy of the Word with Children
Twice monthly 9:30AM Sunday Mass.  Families who attend the 9:30AM Mass on Sunday are invited to have their children attend the special Liturgy of the Word with Children held in the Parish Center.  After the Opening Prayer at Mass, the children are escorted to the Parish Center where a committed team of families conduct the Liturgy of the Word using the Children’s Lectionary.  The children hear the readings on their level and discuss their meaning with an adult presider.  The children are led in song and prayerful response.  All return to the main assembly after the Homily.

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration
PEA Ministry, with the supervision of the Pastor, runs the PEA chapel 24/7 to keep the door open to anyone who is seeking peace, who is seeking God but most importantly to worship God in His blessed form, the Holy Eucharist.  The PEA Ministry is responsible for:   constant recruitment of Adorers (people who adore the Eucharist), coverage (scheduled adorer every hour), holding of events, gathering the adorers for fellowship (Christmas gathering and PEA anniversary celebrations), as well as for education or deepening of faith, for helping coordinate the Procession of the Holy Eucharist on the feast of Corpus Christi and for supporting Parish events such as the block party.

Ushers
The ministers (ushers) help with the seating, the taking of the collection, assigning the gift bearers, and distributing the bulletins.  They also carry out special instructions from the celebrant.
